WHO DID GOD TELL TO BUILD AN ARK?
Noah is mentioned in Genesis 5:29 as the son of Lamech and Adams eighth descendant. He is shown as the patriarch in the Deluge tale (Genesis 6:11–9:19), who was chosen by God to continue the human race after his evil companions perished in the Flood because of his pristine piety. Noah “found favor in the eyes of the Lord” as a pious man (Genesis 6:8). As a result, when God saw the earths depravity and decided to destroy it, he sent Noah divine warning of oncoming disaster and forged a covenant with him, promising to save Noah and his family.
Noah was given the task of building an ark, and he followed Gods orders by bringing into the ark male and female representatives of all the worlds animal species, so that the stocks could be replenished. As a result, according to this story, three sons of Noah are the ancestors of the whole human species. Such a genealogy establishes a universal framework within which Abrahams eventual role as the father of Israels faith can take shape.
